Captain Solo

My favorite Han from Empire. Wanted to do it as realistic as possible. After grabbing a crapload of screenshots and looking at fan costumes, I started working. Still have some details to add and of course the texturing. Currently 7435 tris with 2 x 2048 normal maps. I’m going to have to add a lot more for the hair. All comments and crits are appreciated. Hope you guys like him.

Wonderful work so far!
Looking forward to the colour when you get to it!
Just wondering what program you started this in?

Thanks for the comments, Mik. I used Max and Zbrush. Here is an update. Working my way through the texturing. I am probably going to redo the hair entirely. Anyone else have comments or crits? (this means YOU reader :))

So will you continue this with the rest of the scene?
Vader at one end of the table grabbing Han’s blaster? Chewie and Leia looking on?

Awesome likeness Gaboon! I can’t really see much to improve, I can tell you really put a lot of effort into this one. I agree about the hair, simply needs to flow better but I like how it looks currently. Keep going this is excellent work! :+1: :+1:

Looks just like my favorite actor from 20 years ago!! great job, keep 'm coming!!

M

excellent job, recognized him from the eyes in the thumb.

his hair could use some more work, but you’re on that already I read.
maybe you could differentiate the wrinkles on the arms and trousers.

nice piece!

Nice work, especially since you are using normal maps and have a limited poly count - you’ve done a great job :+1:

since i was a reader, i have to say, i really like it!
awesome. especially with this limitation.
yeah, you are right… you have to improve the hair.

i think, this is the hardest work… to get a famous person recognizable. and you did an outstanding job on this! WITH this limitation.

respect!!!

Wow…
Like it very much  :+1:
agree with the comment before, i think u should improve more on the hair…
But overall it’s a very nice sculpt…
I like captain solo…
It really brings back memories…

Thanks so much guys  Finished texturing. He comes in at 7607 tris. Tweeked the hair, not completely happy with it, but it is improved for now.

Mikala- Thanks, don’t have time for the whole scene  Wish I did.

There is a beauty shot of him on my site here.

I want to finalize him before I start rendering for my reel, so ANY crits, even if they are minor, are always appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Gaboon,

Really nice work. This is one of those models I found myself spending a little more time than normal looking at, as it’s pretty well done and it’s a more original idea for a character. You mentioned you wanted some crits, for what it’s worth the few things that struck me as maybe a little off were perhaps the head is a tiny bit too big, the back of the hand seems a bit flat and could use some volume, and the base of the thumb insertion to the hand maybe looked a little off (in the earlier unposed textured render). That’s my impression anyway, but I’m no authority. As well, the perspectives could be throwing me off. Anyway, good job and good luck getting your portfolio together.

Now I’d love to see you put him in the Carbon Freeze.

I agree, very impressive for a gameready piece. Pose is great, too.

The likeness is good, but I think something is a little off. I am not sure what exactly, but I do think the chin is too flat on bottom. He has a bit of a dimple. Also, the area under bottom lip does not cut into the face enough as it sweeps back. I think maybe the face is a little bit too flat is the basic problem. Also he has a bit more flesh around jowls. All nitpicky stuff, but I think it would improve the likeness a bit.

Great jpb! Everything looks great, especially the last pose

Like you said though, something about the hair is still bugging me… I think it might just be that it’s a tad too long.

Awesome model, and quite a faithful capture too. I really like the snap-shot from the hip pose; Han shot first!

This is a great pose, and an excellent rendition of the great Captain Solo!

Good likeness and nice model :+1:
