Capa's Sketchbook - Welcome!

So I finally decided to get a thread together with some of my stuff. But it just occurred to me that all my material is on the computer downstairs and I am feeling particularly lazy right now. So in lieu of posting everything - I will post a picture of my current WIP - (still needs a lot of love!) and I will post everything else tomorrow if I get around to it! Enjoy!

If ya got comments - don’t be afraid to post 'em! Constructive criticism is never a bad thing! Cheers!

haven’t had a whole lot of time here recently - but got to working today and wound up with this. I am probably not gonna get any comments on this one due to the amazing load of stuff that was posted just before this one but alls well… c&c welcome!

I have the turntable for this if I could just figure out how to post my youtube videos on here!

looking forward to your final sculpts. maybe reducing the intensity of the octopus creature would help to view better the skin details.

Not sure I quite understand … lower the intensity? You mean perhaps use a soft matcap instead of the full on bright purple paint job? Thanks for the comment though! Constructive criticism is never a bad thing!

New character. Got the body done as well -but will post that once it gets a bit more formed in. Gonna be a demon - but I need some decent ideas for what to do with those rings around his neck… or - a different idea of how to hide the seam that will occur between the neck and body. Since the head is a different subtool than the body - without retopologizing and stiching the neck and body together is there a good way to hide that seam??? My only idea at the moment is the rings - or maybe model out a cloak or something… I dunno. Anyway - there it is! Opinions greatly appreciated!

Funny how I never seem to finish any of these. Gotta work on that!

To give credit where it is due - the last pic there is inspired by a sketch from Endling (deviantart)… And I used the same idea with the arms when creating the eye monster there. Also the body for Rosie was a female body that someone posted on here - can’t for the life of me find the dang post at the moment but as soon as I do you can be sure I will give credit! All of these are perpetual works in progress so as always - C&C appreciated!!!

 I have about 8 wips right now. One of these days I might actually finish something.

New sculpt - tried to incorporate pieces from a lot of different aliens that I have seen floating around. Not literally - ya know - on the interwebs… The major influence here was the sculpt by Jordu Schell - and also the one by Dustin Brown… but I tried to give this guy a little bit more of a human quality in his face rather than go full on alien. I might do a bit of texturing tomorrow - we’ll see. Anyway - C&C is always wonderful - if for no other reason than to let me know once and for all that its not just me that is seeing my posts. Also - obviously I am no expert - so suggestions of areas that I need to work on would be awesome. Cheers!

Keeping on trucking with this guy… didn’t have much time today - Not really sure how to improve on him. Some suggestions from the wonderful talent here would be great!

Haha … The eye with the Huge Hands is awesome
I like it.

Hey Sickness - Thanks for your comment! I was beginning to think that everyone on here was purposefully ignoring this thread! The Eye creature isn’t the most original of all characters out there - but it was fun sketching it out! I got to looking and couldn’t find any of your work - Is it just me or…? Get some posted man! I’d love to see it!

Lot more work trying to detail this guy out… Would be really nice to get some feedback here - I’ve looked at this thing so long now that I’m not sure what changes would look good or not… Thanks in advance!

What’s the deal? No love for the newbie??? Is my stuff that bad? Anyways - here is some more. Only had about an hour and a half to try some new stuff out on it tonight - most of which I didn’t like.

Hehe, funny design on the last character, keep sculpting

And no, your stuff isn’t bad, but there is an incredible flow of work here at zbc, so the posts that doesn’t stand out don’t get that much attention.
I often read threads that I like without commenting, because I don’t have time to comment on everything that I like, then I would be posting all day long

But keep sculpting and get better and better, soon you will get more posts. It’s not easy being a beginner.

Hi Capa
I was just thinking that on that last one that your working on, …if you were to take it further, you might use the shape of the head and face as a stepping stone to morph/sculpt it into a cuttle fish or squid type of creature…It has that basic shape in place already…Wouldn’t be to had to modify it and take it even further…maybe even a natalus type of squid, where the back of what is now the skull shape, spirals/curles into the back of the neck type of thing.
Anyway, just throwing your way, a couple of thoughts that crossed my mind as I was looking at that latest piece of yours, that may be useful to you, if you decide to take that piece further.
THANKS for stopping by my sketchbook thread by the way…Really appreceate the thoughts that you expressed and wrote…THANKS

@Santis - Thanks very much for your comment… I know things fall through the cracks a lot around here lol… It means a lot to hear someone actually say they like something I have done. Never really had any real feedback - so thanks for that!

@SpiritDreamer - First let me say thanks for your comment… I love the idea of turning this into a cuttlefish type creature - at least I love the image that sparked up in my head when I read that. Whether I can actually recreate the image in my head - well we will see… you know how that works. And no thanks is needed for my comments man - credit where credit is due - and you sir deserve some credit!

Can I get some opinions on the most effective way to create wings within ZBrush? I am trying to keep this one 100% Z-produced…

ZBrush Document.jpg

Awesome… this character’s cool!

Thanks Obbi! It means a lot that you say that! Your work has been a HUGE inspiration to me - the Sea Dragon is one of my all time favorite pieces of work that I have seen on this website! Thanks for stopping in! I will try not to disappoint!

Well this looks good so far. Not sure what version you are using of ZB, but in my signature you will see a link to the Zsphere thread. Its been dormant a bit as I have been busy and ZB is going through major prolonged changes, but the fundamentals still stand.

Specifically wing instructions are in another thread that has helped many.
