hey all-
so, i typically have a bunch of reference images on another monitor when i work.
now, with 4r7, if i choose to work in fullscreen, zbrush just greys out my second monitor.
is there a workaround for this?
i actually don’t prefer the full screen option… but if i don’t go full screen i lose a bunch of screen space if my dock is showing.
it’s actually quite an annoyance. i like having my dock showing, but having zbrush all the way down to the bottom behind the dock.
it still sort of works, but if i got to another app like safari or to check my mail- zbrush then “snaps” it’s window to above the dock.
to which i’d then have to hide the dock, drag the zbrush window back down, then unhide the dock again. big pain in the rear.
any insights are very welcomed!
? No problem here on Windows 7
well that figures!
it seems like a bunch of the bugs and whatnots are happening to the mac guys.
thanks, sir!
Don’t’ worry, you are not alone… In windows we also have bugs to share at plainty!
Hi,
Not sure if it’s the “Green maximize window”-button you are referring to (in Max OS 10.x.x), but if you hit ‘Option/Alt’ + “maximize window” then it just maximizes the window, just like in earlier versions of OS X. Then you can use your second monitor as normal.
The “full screen option” (with blacked out 2nd monitor) is new in OS X Yosemite and this solution works for all programs, not just ZBrush. Hope that helps!
well, here’s my findings (i’m using OS X Mavericks):
using option/alt doesn’t maximize for me any differently, than just clicking the green button on it’s own.
it still only maximizes down to the top of the dock, not down to the bottom of the screen (unless of course, the dock is hidden).
the fullscreen feature i’m not a fan of at any rate. i like to see my title bar, with the clock and all the crap i’ve got on it, so i’d much rather just have the window maximized.
i have noticed in 4r7 (when it’s not in fullscreen mode) that there’s now a grey bar at the top of the program’s window that has the three buttons, red, yellow and green. all the previous versions had the relevant maximize/minimize commands in the u.i., with no grey bar at the top.
thanks, at any rate. i certainly appreciate the help so far!

In earlier versions of Zbrush it would not exactly save the full screen location and sizing on startup. This meant I had to click the green circle to make it actually full screen every time I started up Zbrush. I believe part of it is the new OSX UI is running a bit different with their new options. The new grey bar I believe is mostly to work with the newer OSX UI. I found the grey bar annoying at first but I’ve gotten used to it as the fullscreen works much better in R7 than it did in R6.
Aha, sorry missunderstood your issue. In Yosemite it does black out your second monitor when clicking the green +, then Option/alt helps… but the dock will still be there though…
now that, i could deal with!
i just like having the dock present, if nothing else.
…and of course my ref on the other monitor. thanks!
