Can't turn on Transform | Modifiers | x, y or z

When making and editing zSpheres, I can’t turn on the x, y and z modifiers that constrain movement along one axis. I can turn the xyz light off and on, but the x, y and z buttons don’t respond. They only come to life if I preview the mesh with adapative skin/preview, but I can’t add or edit zspheres in this mode. Perhaps these modifiers don’t work with zSpheres? Or am I missing something?

I’m just trying to draw straight along an axis. I can do this with my initial line of zSpheres, using symmetry as Aurick suggests, but once I’ve done that I don’t seem to be able to replicate the feat.

I’ve reported this to the development team. I don’t know if it’s intended behavior or not. I’ll get back to you when I hear something.

Much appreciated, Aurick. I look forward to hearing whatever you learn about it. Thanks for your help.

had similar issue , infact i had more than this …
recently , i had to reinstall a whole system … and from that time
everything works as it should !

this happens when you Zsphere is a subtool of a polymesh

Heres how you fix
clone you zsphere model to seperate it from subtool pallet also clone your mesh

Click on the Zsphere model then append your mesh.

As long as the Zsphere model is your main subtool the xyz will work.

Of course anytime your just working with a Zsphere model it works also in draw mode;)

Hi Cannedmushrooms,

I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing, because I can’t change x, y or z even when a zSphere is the sole tool, with no subtools. For example, if I start zBrush, select a zSphere, and draw it, the Transform | Modifiers | x, y, z buttons are grayed out. The xyz button can be toggled on and off, but not the x, y, or z buttons. I’m speaking of the “X Axis Selector” etc., not the symmetry buttons (which are marked >X<, >Y<, etc.).

I’ve attached a screenshot. I open zBrush, choose a zBrush, and whether I’m in Draw or Move mode, I can’t get the axis-selector buttons to activate.

The modifiers can be changed if you switch to preview mode (press ‘A’), so do that to set the axis you want and then switch off preview and you’ll be able to model as you wish.

Hello I have similar problems, activating the Symetry just works for >X< (KEY) the y and z key doesnt respond. I have to go to the menu and switch them via pen or mouse!

Is there a way to assign multible Shortcuts to a function with the new HOTKEY-feature?

 masc

Not really. But you can use a macro to do what you want. Put these in the ZStartup\Macros\Misc folder and then press Macro:Reload All Macros. You will need to assign hotkeys to each new button.

Each button toggles the symmetry on and off, it doesn’t affect the symmetry already set, so if you want Y on and X off, switch X off first.

Thx Marcus for the macros! I will try them at work.

very kind and thanks a lot.

Hi Marcus,

Yep, I think I mentioned in my original post that I can change these buttons when in preview mode. It’s just a bit awkward, because I do much zSphere modeling while toggling preview mode on and off, and it would be much easier to be able to adjust the buttons while not in preview mode. As is, if I’m not in preview and want to switch the axis constraint, I have to enter preview, select the constraint, exit preview, and go back to modeling. Often I’ll soon want to change the constraint again, which means again entering preview mode, changing it, etc.

Not a big deal, but as Aurick says, one wonders if it’s working as intended.

Grotius,

Yes, it may not be ideal but it’s better than not being able to use constraints at all.
