Can't Rotate individual Subtools

After watching a few tutorials regarding Boolean action using Dynamesh, I decided to try it out.

I created a subtool from a cylinder, and appended a second one. I can move the second cylinder around, but whenever I try to rotate it, the first cylinder will always follow the second one. I’ve tried everything from toggling transparency, turning the eye icon on and off, clicking on the individual subtools on the list, but nothing works. The 2 subtools can be moved individually, but they always rotate together!

Is there any way I can rotate just one individual subtool at a time?

Hi Skyways,

Are you by any chance moving/rotating the models on the canvas and not moving the models with the Transpose Line?

Thanks for the quick reply, WyattFox! Yes, I’ve been using the transpose line. I can move the individual subtools by clicking on the white ring of the middle yellow ring, but when I use the white ring at the edge of the transpose line for a “pendulum” rotation, both subtools rotate at the same time. At first I though it was because both subtools were overlapping each other, but it’s the same even when I separate them.

Check your subtools in “solo” mode to make sure they don’t contain more objects than you think they do. In Solo mode (Transform>Solo) check all your individual subtools. If you ever see two cylinders visible at any time, it means you have a duplicate cylinder in that subtool, and when you do any transpose operations, it will affect both unless one of the objects is masked out.

Thanks, Spyndel!

I think that solved it!

I wish there was a way to add just the “solo” button to the right side of the workspace, instead of placing the whole Transform menu there. Most of the stuff in Transform is already there by default.

Lots can be done with the UI on the customization end. I posted one. Have at it

Skyways, I believe the “solo” button is on the lower right edge of the default UI viewport frame.

To relocate a button somewhere you like, go to preferences> config, then “enable customize”. With that button active, ctrl-alt drag the solo button anywhere you’d like it, exit customize mode, and store your config (preferences>config>store config.)

Doug and Spyndel, thanks so much for the tips!

@spyndel: I have a suspicion that “solo” might be just below “edit opacity”, but there’s no way to scroll lower. In fact, a third of the edit opacity button is sunken below my screen! I hope this doesn’t mean I need a larger monitor. :o

You should be okay if your machine meets the criteria they have posted. What is your screen resolution?

My screen resolution’s 1366 x 768. It’s the highest resolution on my laptop.

You can make some adjustments in Preferences, there is also a switch for wide. Be sure to save config after adjustment with Shift + Ctrl + I. You might also want to see if Lightbox is enabled while in there. HTH

Doug, I’ve opened preferences, but I can’t find anything related to screen size or width. The UI and Palette options are also a little confusing. Mind giving this noob some detailed instructions?

Lightbox is enabled, though.

Button size

I turned off wide, but that only changed the tool palette. I managed to resize the buttons using the slider, but the lowest it will go is 38. I tried manually typing in a number, but it reverts to 38 when I press enter.

Now “edit opacity” and half of “ghost transparency” are showing, but still no solo.

Is there a way I could maybe swap “ghost transparency” for “solo?”

EDIT: I just dragged “solo” to the right side, above edit opacity. It worked, which means solo was probably never there to begin with. Ghost transparency is now too far down the list to show, but I doubt I’ll ever need it since it’s always grayed out.

Anyways, I stored my new confic, andsolo should be right where I want it from now on.

Thanks again, guys!
