can't rotate an object when ....

I’m trying to zproject a texture onto a head.

So I fill a layer with my photo, then drag my head object out onto the same layer. But then I can’t rotate or move my head object around. It’s like the photo is an object instead of just being the background.

So what little step am I missing?

once you drag your object into the canvas press T to enter in edit mode.

Thanks, but yes, I’m in edit mode and “alt drag” doesn’t work. Also, I’ve owned Zbrush since Zbrush 1.5b, so I’m somewhat familiar with the basics. It’s just that this seems like a new problem.

If I drop out of edit mode to move my model further into the foreground, then switch back to edit mode, I can then move or turn my object somewhat.

Of course the “alt drag” does not work you have filled
the canvas with your photo.

If you use my Image Plane 3 plugin to place the image behind the model this issue doesn’t arise.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious jmeyer. I already knew it didn’t work.

I’m trying to follow this video tutorial. It’s easy enough, you fill the layer with a photo, drag out your model, move it, rotate … Again, my problem is I can’t rotate or move my model the way he does in the tutorial. Not with a photo in the background.

This has never been a problem before, so is there a new setting or preference I’ve missed?

And thanks marcus - I’m a big fan of your image plane plugin. Very useful.

No, you’ve not missed any settings. I don’t know whether this is intended behaviour or due to a technical restraint.

 Sorry,
i have tested this procedure with the tute you’ll find on the
wiki-pages and it worked, maybe you should try that also,
if you haven’t already.If that does’t work for you it’s a case
for the support i’m afraid.

Edit:Ooops forgot to say, make sure you are using the move
and rotate buttons on the right hand shelf instead “alt drag”.

is your curser blue when you roll over your model? If yes, then simply press “shift” and it will free up the model again.
