Windows 10
zBrush 2018.1
Recently, I believe the most recent release, Zbrush has stopped opening any .ztl file marked as “Read-Only”. The same is probably true for .zpr files but I haven’t bothered to try as most of our work is stored in the .ztl format.
error:
file_name.ztl
This file is set to read-only.
Try again with a different file name.
When working in a production environment I’m constantly working with files that I’m grabbing from the depot. Previously I could just grab latest on our character directory in the depot and then load any .ztl file that I have stored locally regardless of the permissions on the file. This allowed for the sharing of assets between artists extremely fast. Now I have to track down the file and uncheck read-only so I can grab one subtool from a file. This is not only annoying and time consuming, it is also forcing me to make changes to a file that I don’t actually want to change. This causes P4 to think there has been a change to this .ztl file, so now I don’t know what files have actual changes to their contents and which files simply needed a new flag so I could access the file without ever needing to actually edit it. It also means I can’t simply remove a directory from my workspace and have it remove all the files, because it assumes there are changes to that file.
Am I the only one that is having this issue? Is this a recent Zbrush change or a Windows change?
Any help really appreciated.
