Can't edit previous mesh after adding an InsertHCylinder type brush

I am a newbie to zbrush and I know this question have been asked over and over… Once a tool (i.e. 3D model) is dropped in the canvas, it becomes active and the other tools cannot be modeled (edited) anymore. If I want multiple meshes I need to add subtools. That’s my understanding from watching videos on this site and on lynda.com.

Now, and this is my question, if I use a brush that inserts a mesh (for instance, I chose InsertHCylinder), does the existing tool become inactive as well? That is what it looked like… I found it confusing because I expected that using any brush wouldn’t break the edit operation on the existing tool.

Thanks

Your object became masked when you inserted more than likely.

When you say “masked”, do you mean a mask that can be created by pressing CTRL+Click as described here: http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/masking/?

It didn’t seem to be masked… After the insertion, the formerly active tool had the color specific of inactive tools while the cylinder was light brown.

Thanks

ok, you were right - found another post on the net: Tool->Masking->Clear makes the whole thing editable.

Thanks
