Can Zbrush run FULLY on my computer without crashing

Hi,

I recently bought a 2.4 GHz intel Cori i7 with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Machintosh HD, I assumed that this computer would give me the ability to render sculpts to the highest degree in zbrush. When I do make any attempt at using features that require a fair amount of memory usage, the program crashes. So this has now lead to me to believe that a more powerful computer like the mac pro would be my problem solver. Do I need to spend the money to purchase this beast? Am I simply not using this program correctly? I honestly don’t have the answers and I have no idea who to ask about this. I would also like to mention that I currently have photoshop, illustrator and indesign installed on the computer. I don’t use them at once, but does this get in the way of zbrush? I’m obviously not computer savvy enough to know if whether that last question was idiotic or not, I apologise in advance.

I am currently using Zbrush 4R6

COmputer specs:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

Also I need a mac related fix, not a “well firstly you should buy a pc instead”. I only use mac.

ZPlugins>AutoUpdate. You’re a patch or 2 behind.

It is up to date.

There is an option in Preferences to optimize ZBrush for the system it is installed on. I can’t remember off the top of my head how to do it and I’m not at home to check, but it did greatly reduce the times my ZBrush crashed.
If Doug or someone else doesn’t post details, I will check later and post back here.

I’ve seen people have issues before. One was overheating. Seem to be more people with a problem on Mac than PC(at least to me, I run a PC). It can’t use all your RAM. What are you trying to do when it crashes?

I run Zbrush on various Macs.

My main one is a 3.4 GHz i7 with 24 G Ram and Nvidia GTX 680MX. We also run it on a little bit lower end iMac and also a Mac Mini with lower specs. It runs fine most of the time.

I think it’s more to do with what you’re doing and your workflow. Getting a Mac Pro won’t fix your issues.

I’ve had some crashes, too, when using the new TrimRect brush (4R6).

I didn’t know about the optimization…I found it under Preferences > Performance > MultiThreadingOptimizer.

After it was done, it said it had improved by 0.867128% …it didn’t make any difference…still crashes.

But worth a try…maybe it will work for you.

Later…
I found the problem!
I just needed to change it to a polymesh before using the TrimRect brush.

Mine only regularly crashes if I use Inflate>Balloon. Sometimes will crash when creating/exporting AO maps. I just keep that in mind and work around it, and otherwise ZBrush behaves very well.

Hello all,i just want to share my little exp. with Zcrashes. Inflate baloon crashes from time to time. i think its geometry related issue with unknown code  one other thing is the manual retopology with Zsphere. happy to say i think i found a workaround this issue here is my solution:

  1. Thoughts: this issue is driven by the complex below mesh that you try to retop. and the main reason is the symmetry. you spent 10-20 mins drawing points and polygons and the Z tells you- sorry dude… i dont have enought memory to handle your task… crash after crash after crash.

  2. Solution: Turn Off the symetry “X” then retop. the object . after you are done -> addaptive skin and mirror with subtool master

hope my post will help you a little  Cheers.

Good tip, thanks dam.
