Can Zbrush export smooth normals?

Anything exported in OBJ or FBX has not smoothed normals. Is there any way to do it? Some programs as Substance painter will expect smooth normals and smooth them with an external program as Max can be a problem if it is very high poly.

The SNormals option for FBX?

Thanks for pointing me something so obvious. I thought wrongly it was related to exporting normal maps. There is a lack of control as I can not set the angle for the smoothing or smooth groups, unless there is another menu I’m missing. But it will be OK for very high res meshes, that are the more problematic to export to other 3d programs.

I wonder if there is any way to get Zbrush renaming the materials of the subtools in the FBX with the same name than the subtools. Currently Zbrush is assigning the generic name “material” followed by a number. That makes difficult to identify the material when exported.

There’s no control over the smoothed normals, I’m afraid.

For the materials, you could perhaps use the “Export Polygroups as Mats” option. This will create materials with the same colors as ZBrush uses for the polygroups, in case that is useful to you.

I will look into the possibility of naming materials after their subtools.

That would be really great as it would allow export directly tools with multiple subtools in PBX format to surface painter. In this moment everybody is forced to use an additional program as MAX in order to avoid anonymous confusing materials. Painter doesn’t allow to select the objects clicking over them as Zbrush and the only way is try and error clicking over the material name list.

I’ve sent you a PM.
