Can you safely transfer UV's later?

Hi there,

I’ve used ZBRUSH a little bit now. Experimented etc with adding details to varyingly detailed Maya meshes.

But now i’m doing a proper model, where i want to spend considerable time in Zbrush perfecting it. So my question is:

The creature i will be detailing in Zbrush will be textured with photoshop colour maps. Obviously this means i will have to UV the mesh in Maya properly. I also know that you can transfer UV’s in zbrush.
So can i get away with modelling in zbrush on my locked down Maya mesh, then after i’m happy with how the mesh renders out with the zbrush displacement map, with say with GUV mapping from zbrush…can i be 100% sure that i can then UV map the model properly in Maya and then transfer them to the model in Zbrush and re-export the Displacement map from zbrush?

You may all think: “just do the uv-mapping properly before you go into zbrush”. But there is a time issue on our project, where the texture artist can only UV and start texturing the model next month…but i can model in zbrush now.

Any tips from you experienced Zbrushers would be so much appreciated!

Jim

The only things in ZBrush that will require UVs set in stone are color and bump maps. You are free to sculpt away then import the new mesh with the final UVs at any point.
