Can you create masks from geometry on a 3D layer ?

Hi, Can you create masks from a 3d layer ?
I have sculpted some nice veins on a seperate 3d layer, but now Im polypainting its going to be very hard to paint every single vein, so i wondered if there is some way i could create a mask from this geometry  ?

Thanks

You could try the cavity masking in the Brush palette. That should help you isolate some of the detail.

For future reference, bear in mind that you can sculpt and polypaint at the same time. A great time saver for detailing such as veins.

I suppose you could also try painting the veins in 100% black on a white model, then use the color to texture function to create a texture.

You could then take the texture and create an alpha from that. You could then use the alpa as a saved mask in case you want to go back and change the vein color later or reverse it to paint the flesh without painting over the veins.

Thanks for the replies, both good help for the future. I originally created them with alphas i made, so i re-did them with rbg and zadd instead. I didnt want to as the positionings were perfect in the first place, but its turned out well. Thanks again
