Is there any idea what could be causing my Zbrush to not create polypaint data in the negative? Positive works fine.
It turns out I can’t do it if I’m using Layers. Is there a workaround for this?

Polypaint support with layers is limited. You can however first draw out the color+displacement with a positive value, exit recording mode, then drag the layer morph slider all the way to the left to invert the displacement. It should retain the color.
