Can a basic material be saved with a color assigned to it ?

How can you save a non matcap material such as metalic 01 change the color ( which I know how to do )
Then save that material with the desired color?

Thanks

  1. Set the color in the main color selector to white. This is so it doesn’t interfere with the material color.
  2. Select the material you want to edit.
  3. In the Material palette, open the Modifiers sub-palette.
  4. At the bottom of the Modifiers sub-palette are four color swatches labeled Dif, Spec, Ambi & Cavi. Click on the Dif (Diffuse) one and select the color you want from the pop-up color selector.
  5. Now adjust the Colorize Diffuse slider so that the tint is how you want. (The slider is about half-way up the Modifiers sub-palette and you will only see the material update when you release the mouse.)

If you now save the material the color change will save with it. Note that you need to use Color>Fill Object with M on (for just material) to stop the material being affected by the main color selection.
