Camtasia sync problem

I have a question for anyone using Camtasia to record tutorials. Have you heard of or experienced a problem with the video and audio VO going progressively out of sync?

I’ve run into this with Camtasia 5 and have not found a solution. Thought I’d ask here first.

Any help or words of wisdom appreciated, thanks.

Sven

Hi.

I use Camtasia very often. I like it so.
But I just cannot understand the problem.
Could you explain it in simpler words, without abbreviations?

Anatom

Hey Nuts,

I’m still hacking away, though the Olympic spectacle has slowed other things down for the time being. It’s been quite a show so far. Have a new plugin I’m finishing up that will be a lulu. I think you’ll like it.

Anatom,

From the Camtasia forum I now gather that I’m not the only person with this loss of sync problem… and it may be specific to release 5 and 5.0.1. What happens is I record a demo of a process with real-time voice over (VO) that might last for 10 or 15 minutes. When I play it back, the audio gradually gets ahead of the video so that actions on the screen happen further and further behind the comments that explain them. After 15 minutes, the offset grows to be about 10 seconds or more. When I convert the file to .swf or .avi the same sync gap remains.

I can probably resolve it in editing, but I’d rather just fix the problem inside Camtasia if I can.

Sven

 Seems like the problem is linked with the mentioned versions of Camtasia.
Though I mush admit I did not record sound with Camtasia, but only graphic clips.
I prefer earlier versions.
They are much simpler to use.

All in all I would suggest changing entirely  the recording software in this case.

Anatom

Thanks Anatom,

For the moment I will solve it in editing by keeping each recorded section of the longer demo, short. I’ll have to talk with TechSmith to see if they have discovered a fix.

Sven

Anatom,

Problem solved. All I had to do was change the audio recording mode to mp3. Now audio&video maintain perfect sync. Life is beautiful…

Sven

Very nice of you!

No step back, hey?
