I am looking at getting into zbrush, moving away from mudbox. Small Indie so don’t have the budget for the full cost of zbrush perpetual but would like to avoid subsription models. Zbrush core wont do what we require.

I know that its legal provided the seller is within the EU (possibly some other countries as well) but illegal if the seller is in the US. It involves contacting Pixologic and paying a $50 fee for the license transfer.
Why not check out our authorized resellers? They set their own prices and some of them sell ZBrush for less than the MSRP.
Another option is to use a subscription temporarily while you save to be able to purchase the perpetual license.
