Buggy release?

Hi,

Either there are bugs aplenty in this latest release or something is wrong with my installation.

So using the Frame button, more times than none I ended up in a blank screen. Program is telling it’s framed the selection but the screen is blank. If I switch to another subtool and frame it most of the time it will work and then I can see the other previous subtool finally. Very very annoying!

There are other little niggles with this release but right now they allude me.

I’m also not sure why the boys haven’t made middle mouse scroll part of ZBrush rather than the dated plugin. If I use the Zoom button I can get very close but if I use the scroll wheel, too close and again, blank screen and most of the time I have to hit Frame so I can see my subtool again because scrolling back out doesn’t work!

It’s sort of a mess. It’s workable but getting around in ZBrush as become a bit of a bother lately!

Thanks!

Richard

Hi @RAMWolff,

I can’t immediately re-create any of the issues you are reporting. There may be an issue with the subtool you are using, or with your installation, but we would require more information to investigate it. The other users on the community forums are unlikely to be able to assist you. As always, if you believe you are experiencing technical issues with ZBrush, please go to Pixologic Support and start a conversation there. Technical support for ZBrush is not provided in the community Usage Questions forum.

I don’t have any issues Zooming using either of the default navigation schemes for ZBrush. There is no plugin for MMB zooming that is officially supported by Pixologic that I’m aware of.

Thank you!

Could it be that the subtool is really small? I’m working on bracelets for a character and of course they are pretty small, esp areas that are really really small like the catch on the other side of it! Larger subtools like the figure itself are fine. Seems the smaller I go with getting details like the catch modeled and refined are where I’m really at a loss when trying to zoom and navigate and like I said the program looses focus and I end up with a blank screen until I frame the figure on the other subtool layer and then I can re-zoom in to the little piece I’m trying to work on!

I’ve observed an issue of losing object visibility when zooming very, very close and having to frame to recover visibility. Happened in prior releases too. Wasn’t limited to very small objects. As a workaround I saved a camera view at a zoom level just prior to visibility loss to recover the view .

For your small subtool you could create a bounding box with ScaleMaster to keep a record of it’s size. Then unify your subtool so brushes, zooming etc. are in the normal Zbrush worldspace, sculpt your subtool changes, and then resize it to the bounding box size in ScaleMaster when done.

Good suggestions. I’ve never used ScaleMaster before. There is a plugin for ZB called Ryan’s Tools that looks very interesting and I think there are fixes for my very situation but it would be nice to have this work correctly NATIVELY!

Thanks again!
