Brushes stuck in "substract" mode

Hi.

Every now and then, the brushes in Zbrush (currently on 2020, but it’s happened to me in previous versions) become “stuck” in substract mode. It is indifferent whether the actual brush has Zadd/Zsub checked or not, all act as if it were with Zsub on or I was using Alt.

Standard brush substracts clay whether or not I press Alt, Mask brush removes mask (or it doesn’t apply it when there’s none), etc. Interestingly enough, other non-brush based options, like DragRect Mask, work as intended. This makes work simply impossible.

Any ideas of what it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @AbelOroz

The current version is ZBrush 2021.1.2. You should upgrade so that you are on the same page as the people that would be helping you. Troubleshooting your problem would not be feasible. Upgrades are still free to registered users and older versions are not supported.

Upgrading From an Earlier ZBrush Version

Hello @AbelOroz

If I had to go only by what you’ve described, it sounds like the Alt key function is getting stuck in the on position. This could be caused by OS features like Sticky Keys, driver issues with your hardware, or maybe even conflicts with other software that is running. There could also be an issue with your installation.

After you’ve upgraded your program version as ZBer2 suggested, don’t port forward any previously created custom content like UIs or hotkeys. Create it all the current version. If the issue persists, head on over to Pixologic Support and start a conversation. They have the tools there to look more closely at what may be going on with your installation.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:
