Brush Strokes Lose Texture

New user here -

I’m trying to displace a textured plane with various brushes.

I’m using Basic Material and a 2k square image texture.

Every time I brush, the brush leaves a bright white trail.

The texture is present on the untouched part of the mesh, and nonexistent in the new brush stroke.

When I look to the left, the texture slot is blank.

If I click on the texture slot and manually reassign the texture, the formerly bright white brush stroke now looks properly deformed and textured.

With every new brush the problem reoccurs.

Okay, I have tried baking the texture into a high rez mesh.

Textures: Tex > Col

Then I make sure whenever I use a brush I turn off any rgb contribution it may make.

That’s an acceptable workflow. However -

Whenever I hit control-Z to change a brush stroke, the model floods with white.
