Brush Affecting Nearby Surfaces

I have an unzipped jacket. The left side of the jacket is very close to the right side. When I try to brush the left side only, the right side is affected. I could make my brush super small, but then I’m moving almost pixel by pixel. What I am looking for is a way to move the left side without the brush effecting the right side. How is this done?

Same problem exist with the Masking brush.

Did you try the Move Topological Brush? It should move connected points.

I have tried the Move Brush yes, but anything within the Bush circle (the two red circles for your brush size) gets moved. So when I try to move the left side of the jacket, the right side of the jacket moves also if its within the brushes red circle.

Basically I don’t want the right side to move when Im brushing the left side even if the right is within the red circle.

Not the move brush. The Move Topological brush.

You can also mask off the area you don’t wish to move.

No. Not the Move Brush. Use Move Topological (BMT). It will only move points under the circle that are directly connected to the point in the center. If you click on a point on one side of the jacket, the other side will not move.

“Move Topological Brush”, I have never used this. It sounds like its what I need. Will test when I get home. Thanks for your feedback!

In some situations it may be useful to mask one side. In places hike your example where the mask brushes are impractical, you can try to mask topologically. Switch from Draw to Move. Then Control Click and Drag from a point on one edge of the jacket. Connected points should then be masked. I find this method a bit “fiddley” and requires some trial and error to get right. Just another tool in your box.

“Move Topological Brush”, This worked great! Thanks guys!
