As a child, I loved A.B. Frost’s black and white pen and ink illustrations of the original Uncle Remus stories. Without color, Frost still managed to convey the hot, scrubby South I knew in my youth. One of my favorites was Brer Buzzard. I recreated him here in zBrush–not Frost’s Brer Buzzard, but my interpretation inspired by his illustration. For purposes of illustration I use the PhotoShop filters in preference to the NPR ones in zBrush.(Frost was one of several illustrators for Joel Chandler Harris’ Uncle Remus Tales decades before Disney got ahold of it and sanitized it as badly as he did Ernest Shepherd’s originals of Winnie the Pooh)
