Has anyone else noticed that the borders or open edges of a mesh are unaffected by the smooth brush? This is a pain in the a*s. Is there a setting I can change to correct this?
anyone? Am I being clear enough?
i don’t know whats causing this but i will say that the move brush acts the same way.
Not for me. THe move tool does move the borders / open edges for me. I could really use some help with this problem though. Anyone?
smooth brush: select alpha 01,set brushmod --0 , please try it
This used to be a problem in 3.0, but I find it’s fixed in 3.1 (at least for
the move brush).
G.
I tried. No luck
Any other ideas anyone?
Looks like a bug. Not all edges seem to be affected.
Some kind of odd even counting thing?
This is the result of smoothing a ‘eggboxed’ plane from top left to bottom
right. Notice how some edges are unaffected (marked).

Doh!
Spotted my rather obvious mistake in the previous example. The edges
that smoothed were smooth to begin with. Hold On. I’ll revisit when I get a
chance.
OK. It’s all edges. Sorry for the misleading post.
Next time I’ll try to engage brain first.

yes this is exactley what im talking about. Its a very annoying problem for me with meshes like shirts. It is foolish to double the polycount by having polys on the inside when you can just use a double sided material instead. I can see times when i might prefer this behavior, but I need the ablilty to smooth open edges as well.
you can use flatten brush to solve it,but
I think this model has some problems! i have not drivide and smooth it(include smooth deformation)
So am I correct to assume that there is no fix to this problem?
Hehe. Bryan, did you break it again?
This has been like this since, what? The old Z2? Holey meshes is bad for ZB. Not only for smooth but for several other operations too. Just make sure that you don’t have holes on your mesh and you’ll be fine. (Like in eye socket and noses and mouth etc)
I am having the same problem in the model I am making.
For some weird reason the open edges of my character eye are wrong. I am trying to smooth them but is not possible.
I think this was working in zb2 I don’t remember, but I really need that to have an even distribution between the border vertex.
There is any solution to this problem???
Thanks
David
