Borderless PolyGroupIt from Polypaint creates PolyGroups from the polypaint borders themselves

Hello,

I have put down polypaint lines in Scultpris Pro mode onto a model. Whenever I try to use the PolyGroupIt by polypaint command, the resulting polygrouping is very unsatisfactory as the painted borderlines become polygroups themselves, although the borderless option is used - Could this be because the line is too thick? I am painting with a brush size 2/3 and the model has a little higher than low polycount. Is there an option to work around this or is it supposed to happen like that? In all the tutorials the Polygrouping seems to work flawlessly.

Thank you and best regards

Hello @bobbyburrito

In Polygroupit there is a function called “extend”, which will expand the designated polygroup zones to fill in the gaps in between and minimize stray polygroups. It usually works fairly well, but there’s no 100% magic button. It may require cleanup work. The crisper the form of the mesh and the more work you put in to define the zones, the better the results will be.

Thank you, the problem was really the mesh - after using ZRemesher on the mesh it works like a charm in most areas. The original mesh was made with the C4D volume builder, thus pretty poorly laid out.

Thank you!

Oh and one thing, where can I find this “extent” command that you have been speaking of?

Right here:

extend
