Boolean question

Hi newbie question. can anybody help me? i trying to make action figure joints . I’m trying to Boolean this elbow joint but i keep getting a hollow result. I’m trying to get a sealed boolean like in the second picture, can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong??

Hello @kairus1

Both of the meshes appear to be “sealed”, or watertight as far as I can see. The only thing I notice in the the above image is that you appear to have clipped too closely to the side of the arm with your PM3D_Sphere tool set to subtraction mode. The result is an extremely thin or 2d surface in that area.

Live Boolean allows you to preview the boolean as you work and line it up just right before generating your boolean U-Mesh. Is the preview you see as you work not matching up with the boolean mesh being generated?

If that’s the case and positioning the sphere more carefully doesn’t fix it, try dynameshing the subtraction sphere to re-mesh the topology before performing the boolean. The topology generated by the parametric primitives can sometimes perform oddly in certain situations.

yes spyndel ,when i boolean it shows a hollow result, but i tried turning the mesh into a dynamesh like u said and then the boolean worked! thank you!
