Blender and zbrush users, can you help me out?

Can anyone who uses blender as their rendering engine explain to me what their workflow is from zbrush to blender? specifically the texturing part? i’ve been having a hard time getting my textures into blender.

i would paint in zbrush, then create a new uv map by hitting guv tile, then i’d take my polypainting and turn it into a new texture. however, when i assign the texture into my model in blender, it just comes out black in textured mode =( i’m pretty new to blender so i’m not exactly sure what i’m doing wrong?

am i doing the uv maps wrong? is the model i’m texturing too dense (it has a 100,000+ polygons)? would the question before this matter? and most important of all, why is the simplest solution always so hard to find? i swear i googled and read everything i need to know about texturing in blender and zbrush the past two days and i’m still nowhere near solving the problem of the black object phenomenon in blender…

sigh i’m so frustrated… gggrrrrr

Remember before you export any texture out of zbrush to flip it vertically (there is a button in the texture menu).
In blender apply the texture to the UV coordinates.
Make sure you don’t have multiple materials on your object. Sometimes I have seen the blender object having two materials, the texture map applied to the second material which is not applied to any of the mesh faces. The texture doesn’t then show up in the render.

thanks for your suggestions richard! i’ll try them out as soon as i can and let you know if i still have newbie questions

i still feel like i’m missing something cause my renders are still not coming out right. i followed richard’s suggestion and i’m still not seeing textures correctly in blender.

here is what i painted in zbrush:

Your object has two materials attached to it (see image). Try Deleting material slot 1 if your texture is applied to slot 2.

richard thanks for all your help so far… you got me far closer to solving my issues than my own research

the renders are coming out correctly now (which means my uv layout is working perfectly fine), but my object is still being rendered black in texture mode =(

i guess i can just work in solid mode and not look at textures at all when i’m setting up my scene, but it would be nice if my objects dont render black if i’m doing that. any clues as to what is going on?

thank you so much for all your help so far!

Richard (or any other blender/zbrush god or goddess)

so i thought the objects appearing black in texture mode was just a display error… now i’m not entirely sure. here is what my scene looks like in blender:

can anyone please help me figure this out? i’ve deleted materials and assigned objects new materials but the objects stay like that (black or pink)… also, in some cases last night, the black objects were rendering in negative color - though i haven’t been able to replicate the situation and i didn’t get to save those images. any help would be great, thanks!
