Blend shape layer remesh

Hi all,

I am sculpting a head with blend-shapes on single layers which I later want to morph seamlessly from the original sculpt. I could not manage to remesh, it says “action cancelled. The mesh has layers”. I guess for the morphing it is mandatory to keep the topology as it is and therefore I cannot remesh, is this right?

Since I am pretty new to Zbrush maybe any of you can give me a hint how to keep a clean mesh if single layers apply major changes to the topology. Or if this is simply not possible?

Thank you in advance.

Hello AVH.

Correct. The tools in Zbrush that alter topology only work on meshes with a single level of subdivision. 3D layers are generally incompatible with changes in topology.

It is simply a matter of different tools for different stages in a mesh’s development. There are plenty of exceptions, but generally Tools like Dynamesh and Sculptirs Pro work best for the creation of a mesh up to about a medium level of detail, during which surface topology may change rapidly. Other tools in Zbrush are designed around a mesh with multiple subdivision levels, which you’d transition to once the need for frequent changes to the topology is reduced.

Dear Spyndel,

thanks for helping once more!
