Big texturing problem!!!!!! (Moved to !&T Forum)

“Come in my arms, brother!”

I´m still working on a cgi musicvideo for a friend. Therefore I need an dancing and (sci-fi-)saxophone playing alien. A spare time artist like me never could have modeled a figure like that without ZBrush. Thanks, Pixologic, for this great software!

Now I want to texture “him” for Cinema4D. BUT it´s not possible!? Within ZBrush I can texture him spherical etc. and also “AUV Tiles” and “GUV Tiles”. “Spherical” etc. produces strange results, “AUV Tiles” can´t be read correctly from Cinema4D (v7.3)!

If I change texturing to “UV Tile” ZBrush freezes while using ProjectionMaster showing the message “Pickup sequence in progress… copy”!!!

If I load the obj-model and assign the texture, the texture on the model appears distorted.

I use a P4 (2GHz) with 256 MB RAM.

Any suggestions what I could try?!

Experiment:

  1. I load the “Gorg”-obj-file (17,2 MB - is this too big??), hit “T”
  2. I load the “AUV Tiles”-texture and get a distorted texture on the figure (see pic).
  3. I paint over the figure but the color on it remains the same (distorted).
  4. I hit “G”+“Enter”, paint (this time successfully) over the figure. Again I hit “G”+“Enter” and: my editing is gone, the distorted texture is back again!!!

The same procedure with a ball works well! But NOT with my (obj-)model… Why?! Is there a bad part in the mesh which disturbs ProjectionMaster?

Post your .obj and texture. I’ll see forward for a solution

Thanks for your offer to help me, Eidan!!! But meanwhile I found the reason for the strange behavior of ProjectionMaster!!!

I saved my model in various stages to disk. So I went back to a stage where the figure wasn´t subdivided so much and repeated the experiment. And voila: it worked perfectly!!! Now it´s clear, that ProjectionMaster has problems with too highly subdivided models - or my PC has simply too little memory…

I will try to texture the whole model in Cinema4D the traditional way now (assigning multiple maps). And if this isn´t good enough (or if I get problems animating the “Gorg”) I will start over again (using my low-res mesh).

It’s a question of memory.
In the requirements, zbrush wants atleast 1 GB, and more if you want to work with large models and high subd level.

Yeah, I always need more memory. But ZBrush runs only on my laptop (due to copyprotection of the program) which I can´t memoryexpand any more…

As far as I know, most companies are ok with letting you have 2 licenses - for 2 computers…

Manfred,

I agree with Kobi1Kobi, I beleive Pixologic allows you two licenses, one for your desktop and one for your laptop computers.

Thanks for the tip, friends!!! I will soon ask Pixologic.

And here is what I did with the Model in Cinema4D:
