Does anyone have a technique to bend a cylinder while maintaining its proportions? Something similar to using renderable splines with thickness in 3dsmax.
In Zbrush you can use any of the curve tube brushes to draw out a tube along a curve, pose the curve as you wish, and the tube will conform to that curve.
Scott is right. Curve tubes is by far the easiest way to do it, rather than adding a cylinder and trying to bend and pull it to shape.
I’ve tried the curve tube brush but was having a hard time working with it. Is there any way to draw out a curve straight onto the canvas instead of pulling it out from a model?
The Curve tube brushes are insert tools, so they need an active mesh as a start point. You could always make a grid and align your curve to that. If you actually need to position it between two points in your model, it’s better to draw it directly off of your model for accuracy’s sake.
After you draw out the initial curve, it can be positioned by nudging along the curve, or by grabbing the end and dragging it along the screen plane.
I suggest reading up everything you can find about curve mode functions:
I personally think the curve tubes are almost impossible to use effectively in ZBrush. If you’re looking for a faster way and have access to a traditional modeling package I would make them in that.
If we knew exactly what you needed out from the software… Do you need a 3D model to reposition or just an image file?

Screenshots of what you’re trying to do would help.
What was giving you a hard time with the curve tube brush?
