Bendcurve deformer, curvestrapsnap, IMM Army curve brush, even Maya. To make a strap!

Good day Zbrushers!

I’m having an issue with a very simple part of my project, a leather strap for a dog leash. Yup, that simple. I’ve attempted multiple ways of doing it, e.g. brushes-curvestrapsnap, IMM-armycurve, simple primitive manipulating with the new Gizmo>settings(gear) >bendcurve. The follow photos show some successes however, not complete. Originally the two meshes were modeled in separate .ztls, so one strap that I got just right, I couldn’t merge with the other as they were different, etc. Long story short they just weren’t clean so I finally opted to do it over with them in the same .ztl/.zpr. So I found the Imm Army curve brush with a strap! only problem, once I draw it and commit to it, moving it has become a nightmare, it twists, and flips even with the smallest tweaking of either the elastic or the move topo brush(or topo off), either way, I just can’t seem to get a nice strap running from the dog clasp to the hand. What I have shown between the two is the Army curve IMM brush, it’s close but not exactly correct.
If anyone has a quick tutorial or video they know of on how to create this, it’d be great. Hopefully I can reproduce what the video shows, as I’ve watched a good deal of somewhat similar “how to curve blah blah blah” tutorials :).

Thanks!

Separate strap that actually worked nicely, BUT can’t get it with the other strap cleanly enough :(.

The two straps united, well sort of. if I can get these two joined, then I’d be ok.

The above were several attempts, a) was geo with enough subd’s to bend but moving it manually, not a great idea.
b) was using the bend curve option, but I couldn’t seem to get it to do it cleanly either. Eventually it DID wind up working as you saw above finished. Short lived happiness though.

This is the latest attempt with the IMM Army Curve brush. The hand loop keeps twisting and won’t bend, and of course now, if I try to use the bend curve deformer, it blows up!

Earlier attempts at doing it using nCloth and colliders. Penetrating surfaces prevented this use, not to mention importing into Zbrush, not a great result. Sorry, no Marvelous Designer.

It could be done in Max (and probably in Maya) with splines snapping to the surface. But it is painful to imitate in a natural way the gravity without using dynamics. I didn’t try dynamics in Max as you are using Maya.

But I could not resist not using Marvellous designer, sorry…
