Beginner, software advice anyone?

Hi there, I’m new at this but i’d like to have a go at creating realistic 3d models such as final fantasy style, obviously i’m only a beginner but that’s the style I like. Very realistic.

I’ve read alot of posts in this forum from people who are amazing at what they do, and make amazing graphics but with me I can’t keep up with exactly what they all use. I know alot of people on here seem to use different software for different parts of the graphic, things that i’ve never heard of.

So my question is, what software would you suggest i use for actually making the model/figure, being able to colour or render it, that would actually help me learn to make something realistic and hoplefully get better at it.

Thanks for reading!

Wow, that’s a really innocent, newbie question you just asked.

The Final Fantasy stuff is highly-advanced 3D, to my opinion it could take you something like at last 2 or 3 years of hard work to know how to do it - and actually succeed at it.

Don’t expect something like that before those years, or you’ll be disapointed !

As for the softwares… Each and everyone of those can do it. It depens how you use it. You have to learn how to use a particular 3D package, and then try to figure out which tools and how to use them.

At last, but not least, you’ll need talent. Lots of talent.

Honestly, try to do something basic for a start, like a human shape… You’ll get an idea by yourself.

Good luck to you !

Bye !

hi,

well zbrush is a good place to start. You don’t have to be 3d expert to create a character and texture it and color it up. Check out the Zclassroom link in my signature below, you will find a link there to a pdf called the Practical Guide. Take a gander thru it…there are some very cool tutorials that will get you started learning how to create a character rather quickly as well as help you learn your way around zbrush.

As for other programs. I would start with something good that is free…you might find that 3d isn’t really something you like to do and they are a way to get your feet wet, learn how the basics of all 3d modelers work and learn what all those funky 3d terms mean. Wings3d is a pretty durn good little modeler to cut your teeth on. There are some good tutorials for it as well to get you started.

once you try those out and see if you like it…then check out Maya or Max or XSI etc…almost all of them have learning editions but they also have big learning curves so it’s best to learn the basics first before diving in and overwhelming yourself and quiting in frustration.

Remember…small steps are still steps that take you to your goal as long as you keep moving you will do alright.

…the free Anim8Or so easy for a beginner :+1:
And if you make Final fantasy with it, that will be a task
Bon courage! :sunglasses:

Thanks for your replies, i’ve been playing around with it earlier. Obvoiusly I won’t be getting to make anything like in final fantasy yet (haha) but mainly what i was looking for was software that could put me on a starting point to eventually getting better and trying to do something of that style . I’m getting my way around zbrush 2 at the moment, and finding it awkward but getting the hang of things slowly  Thanks for all your replies and advice!

This is what you want! Besides ZBrush of course

PS:If you can spare another 500$ besides ZBrush, then go and get XSI5 Foundation from Softimage.com. That’s the right stuff. They also have a demo.

Wings 3d is a good program to learn basic poly modelling with. www.wings3d.org It’s free, lightweight, fast, and there are a lot of good tutorials for beginners… It also complements zbrush very well.

The best thing about free when you start is that if you decide you don’t like it you’re only spent your time.

Good luck.
