Hi All,
I have a problem that has been nagging me a few days now. I’ve tried googling and reading but couldnt’ find a solution to what SEEMS to be a straightforward thing.
I have a flower petal type of model, and I tried, using the Move Tool (and Move Elastic Tool) to BEND the edge of the petal in the opposite direction. But all it does is but out everything around the edge but the Edge won’t bend past 90 degrees. How the hell do I get the total edge to bend “around”?. In my example, I want to rotate the edge angle OUT. Below the first image is before I use the move tool, the second after. The second is not the result I’m going for. I want that part to go LEFT AND DOWN. Does anybody know a solution?
I think I found the ideal(est)? way to do it. My model had too many polygons to utilize the full abilities of the Move Elastic Brush. With Elasticity set to 25, it only works on polygons of 25k or lower - I moved down to 18k poly’s and the Move Elastic Brush properly “bent it” at the beyond 90 degree angle on the edge that I wanted it to. If anybody has other solutions or tricks, let me know. Thanks.
There are a number of approaches to problems like this.

Low Poly. When it comes to moving points around, it is always easier to do if the mesh is fairly low poly. In that case it’s easier to both isolate and move individual verts around exactly where you want. So consider working with a mesh with multiple subd levels, and using the bottom most level to move verts around.

High Poly. It’s much more difficult to move portions of a high poly mesh around in any but the most subtle fashion without distorting it. But you can sculpt an underlying object to get the contours you want, then use the “Extract” function in the subtool menu to extract a high poly object from its surface, or use the topology brush to draw out a low poly object that conforms to the curves.
