BasRelief resolution

Hello there,

I am trying to do a BasRelief and I am getting what it seems like resolution issues.
Please see the attached image.

  1. I am getting these lines across the model
  2. Although the base mesh I am applying the BasRelief is subdivided several times,
I keep getting these pixelated effect on the mesh

Can you please let me know if there is a way around this?

Cheers,

Diego

I have managed to get rid of the number 2 issue by increasing the document size and remaking the BasRelief but the annoying number 1 lines are still around.

Hello @Diego_Ghirardo ,

There are two different things happening here.

Item #2 is a resolution issue. The quality of your projection is influenced by:

  • The resolution of your mesh. If the mesh is not high enough resolution to hold the incoming projection detail it may exhibit visible stepping.

  • The display resolution of the canvas and how much space on it the target geometry occupies. Even on a high res canvas you may experience low res results if the mesh occupies only a very small portion of it. For maximum resolution, increase the size of your doc AND zoom out on it (the canvas, not the model) and make sure your meshes occupy as much of the canvas as possible.

Item #1 is an unavoidable byproduct of the bas-relief process in some situations. The projection settings and resolution may influence the appearance of lines like this, but it may not be possible to eliminate them entirely. The surface of your projection can be sculpted, smoothed, and refined using the broader ZBrush toolset like any other mesh.

Hi @Spyndel
Thanks a lot for your help,
in the end I am finding Grab Alpha From Document
is giving me much better results in this case.
