Balrog-inspired demon

A few balrog-pictures inspired me to model the beast, but as I didn’t use much reference on the way, the model ended up a bit different than Peter Jackson’s balrog. You can call it my version of the balrog or a demon inspired by the balrog, anything goes.

Here’s a general view of the model:

Although the model looks quite good, I’m not completely satisfied with it (like I’d be completely satisfied with anything :stuck_out_tongue: ). I don’t know. I can achieve the general shape of the object I’m modelling quite well, but I can’t make it look really defined and believable. All my models remind me more of blobs that have the general shape of the subject. Sure, I can make small details like wrinkles with projection master, but the “medium-sized” details are kinda missing in all my models. Meh, maybe I’ll improve.

Any suggestions for my future models?

As I look at your post… I get the distinct impression you concentrate on the front, side, and back views… which is good!

But, try to pay attention to the 3/4 views too! If it doesn’t look somewhat correct there, it will not look correct overall…

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that the next time I model.

It’s also kinda shame that ZBrush’s viewport is orthographic while modelling. The model looks so different with the perspective distortion applied.
