Is there a backup file system in Zbrush 3 anywheres? I just lost 2 hours worth of work. I know I should be saving, but there should ALSO be an option to have the ztl get auto-saved in a backup directory somewheres at a time interval set by the user. If there isn’t a backup file system, can we please get that in the future.
no
I think that’s an OS thing to backup files that gets overwritten. OS X Leopard will have that time machine thing. (just in time for Z3 OS X release?) But for Z3 to backup, you might wanna try quick save (formerly known as psnap)
Anderseloy: I kinda figured it didnt. Ah well.
Feureau: Time machines? OS X? Every major 3d application out there has an auto back type system. XSI/Max/Maya etc. It’s not limited to an OS and they don’t overwrite files. They get stored in the backup directory. Really hope that Zbrush will have one eventually too as it can save your hiney if you have really gotten into the flow that zbrush allows for and then all of a sudden the program crashes and you are left losing a ton of work.
sorry wayne…before ya read further…was a bit crabby…welll still am hahah but i get that way from time to time when i reckon folks keep trying to mold an elvis jello into mickey mouse…and the moon is almost full…it’s raining and i can’t ride…and the restaurant i get stuck eating dinner at is once again out of two of three advertised specials…ahhh hell sounded good right…i am just crabby arsed today…sorry you ran into it…I will be at the corner of 5th and main at 8am tomorrow on my harley…you can run me over then…please make it quick…other wise i’ll be forced to go to inlaws instead of zbing my last breath…thank you.
well not native to zb but Svengali has for z2 and now for z3 offered a way to help us out there…psnap for z2…quicksave for z3…see my sig for plugins.
oops ya might have to click a button to save tho…
think about it…does/do any of those friggen progs you so love allow you to work with the amount of polys zb does? well i doubt it and one of the reasons zb can do that is it doesn’t have some tsr’s sucking up one second of mem etc
we gain we lose…for every thing you want zb to do it probably costs somewhere in performance or mem somewhere else you or me might bitch about more…
zb is different…sometimes we might have to fudge…and yes sometimes we shouldn’t have too…but i’d rather control when my saves are done anyways.
Thanks for the link. I’ll definitly have to check it out. The problem is that Zbrush doesnt have some basic functionality like a backup system “every other friggen program I so love” has. Im not worried about ram. I’ve got 4 gigs and about to get 4 more. Also running dual, dual core procs so the performance hardly is ever a problem. I’m a professional artist and really want my tools to work with me and not against me. Zbrush works with me in MANY ways and I love the program, but there are definitly things I hope get addressed as they are working against me. An autoback system probably isn’t that hard to implement and is one more thing that would make quite a few professional users happy as z3 is sorely unstable for many of us. I’d much rather have the OPTION to let zb do autosaving or not…as the other major 3d apps do. It’s something you can toggle on or off…not something forced upon the user. I’ll definitly check the plugin but would defintly love to see it integrated into the package as it’s something basic every app should have. Ask any other professional user and I’m sure they’ll agree that having the option would only be a welcome addition.
