Axis and orientation

Hi there,

there is a basic question, what sometimes puzzles me: is there a possibility to see, in which direction I´m working?

In other words: sometimes I want to use a deformation tool, and in this case I always ask myself, which axis I have to choose. I never could find any advice in ZBrush, if there is something like a plane, a horizon or anything.

Any help? Thanks.

Greetings,

Stephan

In previous versions of ZBrush you would check the Tool > Preview > Object Preview if in doubt. The Object Preview has X as the horizontal, Y as the vertical and Z is into the screen.

But in 3.5R3 it is a whole lot easier. Simply enable the Floor Grid (Shift + P). Red indicates the X axis, green the Y axis and blue the Z axis (RGB = XYZ).

The Draw > Axis slider determines how many lines on the Floor Grid are used to display the XYZ orientation. Together with the other Floor Grid options you should be able to see the orientation at all times.

Hi Mark,

thanks for your fast reply.

It´s »former versions« in my case, because 3.2 on Mac (sigh)

The gyro tells you that… right?

press T key to turn off edit mode,

then press W, E or R keys to turn on gyro:

W key (translate or move)
E key (scale)
R key (rotate)

Axes are X = red, Y = green, Z = blue.

click, hold and drag on axis or axis intersections (cyan, magenta, yellow) to interactively transform along and around a specific axis.

Press T to re-enter edit mode and turn off gyro.
