Avatar and ZBrush

Hello,

I have just started using zBrush and I am amazed at what it can do. I recently read a post by patton, a concept designer for Avatar. He said that the Avatars faces and the head of the Banshee were created in ZBrush. My question is how did they go from a 3d object to a life like creature (for the banshee)? Can you create 3d models in ZBrush and make them move and do actions? If so what additional software do I use?

Thank you for your patience as this might be a very obvious answer.

Hey, yeah, maybe is an obvious question for some people, but hey, always is better to ask instead taking the doubt to the grave.

Patton used zbrush for character look development on the faces for Stan Winston Studio (sadly renamed Legacy effects now), not the actual film models, he was responsable for some concept art. Z-brush can do some animation via a plugin called Z-animator, but is just to give your turntable models some movement, not actual character animation. If you wanna to give animation to a model sculpted in zbrush you will need to export it as a .obj into an external package like, 3ds max, Maya, Softimage, Houdini, Lightwave etc and make the animations there. I hope this answer your questions.

cheers.

Thankyou so much for this answer. It was very helpful.
