Autopsy. Illustrated etymology

This was created to illustrate etymology of the word “autopsy”, that in ancient greek actually meant “seeing with one’s own eyes”. The meaning of the first part “auto” in this context brought me to idea “what if the object of research were a subject?”

So I used Zbrush, Hexagon and Photoshop to bring that to life.

I’m shoсked with thematic coincidence

simply magnificent! yup…more inspiration 4 me!

Thank you, GrayEggs! Glad that this inspires you.

This is pretty freaking kewl …I love it. Way better than I can do, so no major crits from me…:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks, Ron! Crit is welcome, even not major.

What bothers me is the way it looks on different monitors. I checked it at my work and it looked too bright.

kewl…the skin area where the table meets his belly…looks off to me…shadows maybefrom the table to the flesh…? Maybe paint on some more highlights or something on his chest and abdomen…something is just off to me on that…might just be a render adjustment with the brightness and contrast? or I could need glasses…

Would love to hear about your tools on the table and how you made them…very convincing tools to me…lots of possibilities also…

thnx

ps. I was just nitpicking a bit on the image…

Ron, that is very helpful critisism. I think I’ll try to improve this image, before I print a poster.

As for the tools, I modelled them in Hexagon and then imported them into ZBrush. Here are some pics: [![for_1.jpg|300x300](upload://zFjeNWxpeizX861kSpHBwC77TAh.jpeg)]![saw_zb.jpg|500x370](upload://AbzYzSSkBppL4Nrl46axmSRuEAM.jpeg)

I’m on a monitor that is calibrated often. I’d say your general lighting is right on. Just enough light to make out the background objects.

Great concept :+1: :+1:

I’m with Ron - only thing I see is that the way the light hits the backs of both hands my eye expects it to hit the chest area with shadow of the hands?

5 stars here for the concept.

Blaine, thank you very much for stars! Some people found the concept a bit weird, but I wanted to tell this story anyway.

My zlight setup does not allow long crisp shadows, because I couldnt achieve good result with such shadows.

 haha very happy picture looks good

…fractal put in abyss!
Sure that David Cronenberg will love that

I think I’m going to have nightmares tonight  hehe, nice close ups. Checked out your Samurai as well, that is also some very nice work.

I think the lighitng needs more work. It doesn’t feel like there are any cast shadows. The brightly lit hand should be casting a shadow on the chest. The eyes could use a sharper and brighter specularity as could the knifes in the display case. Or is that a painting? Not sure if there is a glass material over the knifes if they are actual objects.
