Attempt at figure sculpting

I come from an environment background but always looking to improve my character work. Tried using Zbrush for a female sculpt. I may have shot myself in the foot picking a ‘non conventional’ figure since I can’t find any good model sheets for more ‘pear’ shaped women. So I’ve been gathering other reference for that, some included here.

This is very very early stages and lots of wonkyness but thought it would be good to get other eyes on this during the early stages. Hopefully some can offer some tips for me.

My advice would be to not yet delve into higher subdivision levels until you’ve worked out the proportions a bit better. Work with as few polygons as you can get away with while working on the largest forms and masses. Once those are in place and looking good from every angle, and you can no longer refine the mesh with the polygons that you’ve got, only then should you add another subdivision level. Continue to add the smaller forms/details until they all look good, then subdivide again and repeat, etc.
It’s very cumbersome moving large amounts of polygons around during the initial blocking in stages. Think of it as sketching in 2D. First you block in the large masses and you iteratively refine from there adding more detail only when the big stuff is working.

Good luck and happy ZBrushing.
