Atelier - first female(Nudity)

i did this model awhile ago, but as I’m starting to put together stuff for a demo reel, i thought I’d touch up the model and texture and render it out. this is my first female model, and also my first time texturing and rendering out a person, so i learned alot. nearly maxed out my terrible computer, so i felt a bit limited and frustrated(lots and lots of crashing). it’s far from perfect, but i need to get going on other projects for my reel. (and hopefully i can start a sketchbook again soon)

i was going for a more classical academic look, similar to all the beautiful figurative paintings i see coming out of Atelier's and competitions such as the ARC Salon. critiques are always welcome. cheers

You’re kidding?
Far from perfect?

This is a beautiful image and piece of art - well done!!!

Not bad for a first go. Can you show some ZBrush renders? It would be nice to see how the sculpt looks.

Amazing work and light setup!
Looking forward to see the wire-cage and its polygonal structure
Impressive the scene-lighting and the soft shadows used too.

Gosh!!! it’s beautiful!, this is top row!! i love absolutely everything on this pieace of art!.

Proportionally, her legs look a little short to me when compared to the rest of her. But, as a whole, this looks really good!

Straight into my personal TOP ROW folder:D …BEAUTIFUL…:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Her hair isn’t casting a shadow.

What program you using to render?

I would add a very cool blue light on her lower left side instead of relying on only one main light?

Make the hair shadowing better and this is TOP ROW!! :+1:

superb modeling and really nice lighting! good work my friend!

Great and definitely top row…

Ziggy

Superb.

“Make the hair shadowing better and this is TOP ROW!!” I copy this.
Or, don’t change anything and this is top row too.
I don’t really care about what’s wrong. I care about what’s right. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

GREAT model!!
Excelent Anatomy and pose…

Great sculpt, and interesting lighting :+1:

Pretty nice. Did you re-topologize her? Was it the rendering that was giving your system a workout or the sculpting?

She does look a bit stiff and the anatomy could be better but it is still really coolness and I can’t wait to see what you do with your next project!

good work:):+1:

VISEone - Thanks! i suppose perfect is a pretty subjective term.

marcus_civus - thanks, i’ll post some zbrush shots at the bottom.

P^T - thank you much! at the time i modeled it i just wanted to get something done, so i used an already made basemesh, so it’s not my topology, so i wasn’t planning on showing the wireframe.

manzarek123 - thank you very much.

Derek Frenzo - Thanks. i see what you mean, but i think it’s more attributed to her hips and that her legs are a bit thicker than what is generally depicted. although if they are short, i feel that it’s still within what is natural.

SpiritDreamer - Thank you very much! i’m flattered.

MrGuy - i’ve attached some shots that show the shadows and the angle of the light for the hair. I used Mental Ray to render. for the light i wanted to just keep it at the one, since that is generally what is used in those academic paintings that i wanted to somewhat simulate. i messed around with having some other lights in the scene and it wasn’t really looking how i liked it.

John Strieder - thanks! the hair wasn’t rendered as a post effect. i was actually trying to render it on a different layer or pass, but i couldn’t seem to get it to work.

EricShawn - thanks.

gordon-v - thanks man! congrats on the hunter challenge entry!

Sigmund Hentze - Thank you!

Sebcesoir - Thank you!

michalis - Thanks!

arthurduque - Thanks!

jamespthornton - thanks!

Vancross - thanks! i should have retopologized her, but when i thought about it it was already posed, and it would seem like a pain now. Rendering and Sculpting both actually. the sculpt is only about 2 million polys since my system can’t handle another subdivision(Zbrush just crashes) and i didn’t try to optimize it with new topology. rendering SSS with hair gave me tons of issues, Maya crashed many many times. i ended up rendering all my tests wth batch render and i didn’t get as many issues. i can’t say i’m all that into the pose or the anatomy, but it could be worse, and i need to do some newer work.

tokio - thanks!

so for the hair, it was also my first time working with any sort of hair system. i think maybe it doesn’t look as weird to me since i’ve seen the hair on her without and shadowing at all and it looks alot worse than what it looks like now. i’ve included shots from the light to show the angle, it seems like maybe it’s more directly facing the hair to create stronger shadows. i also included shots that show the shadows from when i was working on it. since it was my first time using hair, perhaps i just don’t know what i’m doing and got weird results, but i’m not sure what i could do to change it, so i’m open to suggestions.

anyway, heres some stuff.
