assistance,help,comments,opionions needed..!!

Hi there all,
I am currently in my final year of a degree in Animation and i am starting my final animation short and i want to use Zbrush in my work flow. Now i have been using ZB for about a year now so i am still a beginer . I have enclosed 3 images of the characters i will make , this is to give you the style of the film.
My question is really on how i should go about doing that. ?
Should i build a low poly mesh in Maya first (with the UVs done aswell) then import it into ZB to sculpt then export that out as a normal / displacement map ? to put on my low rez model? or should i build the model from scratch inside ZB then re-topolyize? Since i have to animate these models what does the toplogy have to look like? I am really after the most time effective way of producing these models which is why i am asking you all…!!
also anyone got any good tips on how i should do the hair?

If you’re looking for speed…do which is faster for you. If you can build a lowpoly in Maya faster than you can sculpt and retopo in Zbrush then do it that way.

As for correct flow…that depends a lot on the character, and where animation needs to happen.
