hi, i dont understand…
i have 6 different subtools: if i assign at every subtool the material from the left window (quick pick…) the differents materials are assigned in differents subtool regularly (and i can choose different mat for different subtool), but if i choose a material directly from lightbox (material that i downloaded) when i fill the new material in a subtool this material is filled in every different subtool…how can i use the downloaded material in the same mode of the standard material (that we find in the material pallette)?? it’s crazy…
help me please
By default if a subtool has no polypaint, it displays whatever the active material/color is. If you’d like them to display a specific color/mat, you must first fill them with polypaint (select desired color/mat, Color > Fill, with the appropriate M, RGB, or MRGB selector active).
Then, as long as that subtool’s polypaint (paintbrush) icon is active, it will display that polypaint instead of changing every time you select a new material.
but my subtool are all polypainted, i am at the end of my work (sculpting and painting) i will render in zb and for this i will assign different material but i cant assign different material to different subtool (only if i pick up the mats form the left window,…)
esxuse but im not a noob, i know zb…see my gallery…the problem i that i cant assign the mat from lightbox to every single subtool…this i s the problem…
The number of material slots in a Zbrush session are finite. When you double click a material in Lightbox, you are “Loading” that material into one of those slots. When you load a material, it overwrites the currently selected material slot. If the currently selected material is the one you have applied to your subtools, that material is overwitten.
When loading a material, pick some other un-used material to replace first.
thx i understand…then i must choose the materials in light box to “fill” the set and afetr choose from the left Windows…thx
i tried but in this way i can use only one material from lightbox: why we can download more and more mats if we cant use they in different subtool: i dont think that we have this limit: there will be a possibility to use the different mats from lightbox…
Sorry I confused you. Think of it this way: whatever materials Zbrush starts with in it’s quick pick list are the “jars of paint” it has to work with. When working with those paints, the rules in my first post apply.
When you load a material from outside of the Zbrush session (as you do from Lightbox), you have to empty one of those jars of paint to make room for the new paint. This is just one of the quirks of Zbrush’s unique architecture–it doesn’t create unlimited new jars within a session.
If the jar you emptied was the one you used to apply paint to your model, the paint on your model will change to reflect whatever the new paint poured into the jar is. This allows you to make changes to an applied material without having to repaint your entire model.
thx Spyndel, but can you say me an example to understand better…im italian and is difficult to understand what you said…thanks a lot my friend…
now i understand what did you said…i must choose the mat from the jars then choose from lightbox to modify the mats…and then apply to subtool…thxc a lot now i can work…thx
ciao
Ok, I’ll try this then:
A Zbrush session has a limited number of material slots. That’s just the way the program works. When you load a material from outside, it must replace one of those slots.
You can use this to replace a material that has already been painted on your model.
ok i made it…it’s ok…thx
