... as promised

DeeVee: VuePro, a very simple scene (just for testing it out): 94 objects, one light (quadratic spot, volumetric with gel), no sun, 10.801220 Poly’s (due to the greens), render time under “ultra” 1 hour 40 minutes.
At pass 4 it went to swap, but there was no substancial slow down.
Some things (placing the light for the first time) took about 20 seconds, 4.2 does this in a snap.
OpenGL causes no problems anymore, and the plant editor is big fun. No change in materials and/or objects, thought they would put a bit more of this into Pro.
The import of objects (dxf, obj, etc) is out, you “load” those meshes. It worked for a high-poly ZBrush mesh.
Looks good, as far as I can see now.
Next will be the same scene in 4.2.

Great, the light filtering through trees is
hard to capture in any medium.
Also glad not to see aliens behind the trees.

@rtyer: nope for aliens, maybe there could be a sunken pyramid, mayan style - but: like I said >>> only to see about the Pro version of Vue!! Concerning those beams: due to the leaves of those palm trees they all are very thin, making it hard to believe.

@Deevee: same scene:
10.610.628 poly’s, 94 objects, one light (no sun). Render time >>> 4 hours 50 minutes, so that’s one for Pro (will render it over night, just to see), again in “ultra”.

Exept of the rendering 4.2 seems to be a bit quicker (basic terrain at max = 2048x2048). Plants are - knowing Pro - boring at 4.2. Will post the 4.2 Monday morning.

It marvelous but 5 hours of rendering !
You must have 2 computers
Piloou

Pilou  : the pic you SEE took 1 hour and 40 minutes to render.

THE OTHER (coming up to see if the Pro version is worth considering) will take 4 hours and 50 minutes.

It’s not the machine, it’s the software

What is the longest render you have ever done(general question)

14 hours for a Bryce-pic.

wow very nice… I like particulary this special ambiance !!

really good Zerebrush :+1:

Surely stupid question
Why not import in Zbrush and best rendering? (no poly size count but in general)
Pilou

Pilou: don’t know how to say it after that long time: maybe the simple version?

>>> there is NO “best renderer” in ZBrush!! There is an attempt for a renderer that’s called “best renderer”. The quality of that “best renderer” is equal to “preview” in Vue.<<<<<

There are things you ONLY can do in ZBrush (get old before your time, produce high bloodpressure - these kind of things  ), but ZBrush is NOT the mother of all things.
But, said this before, there are so many things you can’t do in demo mode - how should you know!!

@ Fouad (sorry for the late reply): I’ll forward your compliments to Vue - it’s really just like this: if you done some painting you know about lights, but: using softs like Vue (there are others) you only have to arrange things, finally press a button (get some coffee, go for a walk), and the software does the rest.
So, pictures like that might transport some moods, but those pics say NOTHING about of what you are capable.
Some sort of “art for dummies”? Not exactly - you can even fail doing this kind of automated “art”.
But: I like it, too  !

Not wishing to impose but is the Bryce work here?
I have not encountered times like this so far.
I will be done the road.
It is not a big problem with a couple of computers but it would be nice to know in advance.

Hi Ze
Don’t broke my idole!
Pilou
PS I have seen many things just make with Zbrush in a few times as well as many hours(losted)of rendering of mega progs
look at this guy Daniel Sandner :)(the king of the fog)

Just have a look at the post that 50’s kid did (concerning lights & shadows).
I’ve discussed topics like rendering in and outside ZBrush that often - sorry, but I got no brain to do this over and over again. You asked me why I did the things I did the way I did, and I gave you my honest opinion. There’s nothing more to it.

Thanks for the experiments. I have been told that the main problem folks were having with the Pro version of Vue, was difficulty in the inportation of Poser images. I understand that with the updates there is no longer a problem.
Apart from the plant editor, and the improved render engine, I am inclined to stick with 4.2 for a little longer, especially since this is still a hobby. Looking forward to your other findings, they are very much appreciated by me for sure, and I am certain that others find them interesting also.
Frenchie, there is just no comparison between the two programs, so to me that is a non starter.
