I have a model with multiple subtools. Is it possible to append a tool that has a number of subtools as well? If so, how?
[edit] conks head . You could also use Multi-Append in the Subtool Master plugin, which automates this process, and does what you want from a saved file. Much easier when dealing with lots of subtools.
Merge that tool with “Merge Visible” in the subtool palette first, which will produce a clone of that tool with all subtools merged as a single unit in the tool palette. Append that tool as a subtool to the desired tool.
Once appended, you can split that subtool back into its component parts. Easier if all of the subtools were a single polygroup, in which case you can use the “Groups Split” button(subtool palette). Otherwise, hide the individual parts polygroup by polygroup, and use “Split hidden”(subtool palette) to split off individual subtools as desired.
Or, you could simply clone each component subtool, and append them one by one to the desired tool. Depending on the number and complexity of subtools involved, this may sometimes be more efficient.
Thanks! Indeed, the Subtool Master plugin is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’m surprised such an important functionality is ‘hidden’ as a plugin. I would expect it to be an often used function.
You can drag the Subtool Master button to your main interface to make it more quickly accessible by enabling Preferences>Config>Enable Customize, and Ctrl-alt dragging it from the plugin menu, and saving that config.
Personally I replace the world-destroying Quick Sketch button with it, as it is much more useful, and doesn’t compel me to restart my program every time I accidentally hit it.
