"append" and "extract" does not work

Hi everybody!

I have a problem and hope I can get help here. I am working on a new figurine and everything was fine for hours. Everthing worked and it was a good workflow.

Suddenly “append” does not work anymore. When I append something, it appears in the subtool-palette but without a preview-pic. When I click on the appended subtool, then everything on the screen disappears. Also the appended subtool disappears.

The same with “extract”. After extracting a part of the mesh the new subtool appears in the subtool palette without a preview pic. Clicking on it everything dissapears.

Does anybody know what happens here? Can I do anything? Did I anything wrong?

Thanx,
Hell666

PS: I am working with ZB 3.2 on Apple Macintosh.

… I checked this:

I have saved the last 30 steps. “Save tool” after every big step.

Files #1 to #15 are working perfect. Appending and extracting is no problem. From file #16 and higher both does not work anymore. This means I worked hours for nothing because I cannot use any subtool from the files #16 to #30.

What I found out is that I´ve saved files #16 and higher with a partly hidden mesh.

I´ve worked on the hands of the figurine while hiding anything else of the mesh and saved it from time to time.

Could this be the problem? Saving with hidden meshes??

I’m having the same problem with append. I’m also on a mac, can’t figure it out yet.

hell666 is right. I tested it out. If you save a partially hidden mesh, you’re F’d. Make sure you NEVER save a partially hidden mesh. If you do, you can’t append, and if you export as an obj., it will be corrupted. You just have to suck it up and start over.

im having the same problem with the append function in my subtool…

is it true that if you save with a partially hidden mesh, it will corrupt the file.

this sucks. i dont know what to do.

did you find a solution?

I did find a solution. After reading your post I decided to try something. Export your model as an obj. at the highest subdivision level so you don’t lose any details. Make sure scale is set to 1 and x offsett, y offsett, and z offsett is set to 0 in the export menu. Then import it and reconstruct the subdivisions so that you have your lower levels back. Now you can append!

can you tell me how to reconstruct the subdivision?

thanks for the reply

The reconstruct subdivision button is in the Geometry sub pallet. If it won’t allow you to reconstruct, then you are already at your lowest. If your mesh had multiple subdivision levels before, and you exported at the highest, you should be able to import and reconstruct.

works…thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.

very much appreciated
