I am interested in taking Alex Olivers online sculpting classes and have been in contact with him concerning this.

It feels a bit strange asking this as its like asking about someone while they are in the same room but has anyone taken the classes that could recommend it and tell me a bit about their experience.

My name is Nelson and I’ve taken Alex Oliver’s online sculpting class. It was the best experience I’ve ever had with an instructor. You actually sculpt and send pictures to Alex for instant feedback. You learn so much with every class that I would recommend this for anyone studying anatomy and digital sculpting. Not only do you learn about anatomy but zbrush techniques as well. He gives great advice on how to approach sculpting projects and how to bring your models to the next level. I owe a lot to Alex for really being generous with his time throughout the classes and being very flexible to work on both the teacher’s and the student’s schedule. I mean as soon as I heard that I would be able to study under a master, I jumped at the opportunity and wanted to experience it firsthand. I would totally recommend this for you if you are serious about your craft and really want to get a handle on anatomy and form. Alex Oliver is a master at his craft and an excellent teacher, go for it man!

My name is Gregory Strangis and I too have taken Alex’s online class. Swisher summed up a lot about how great his class was and still is! When I first started modeling about 8 months ago I was discouraged too say the least with all the incredible talent around the forums but I decided to go ahead and take Alex’s class to learn from 1 of the best artist’s around that I knew had a ton of knowlegde to share and because of that class I got the help I needed to learn the foundation of sculpting as well as the motivation to keep pushing. Like Swisher said Alex is great with working with your time schedule as much as possible which was great for me. I checked out your site and judging by some of your zbrush sculpts you would benefit from this class if you want to keep improving your knowledge and foundation of anatomy and scultping. Im sure I sound like a spokes person right now but I just couldn’t stress enough how much it helped me continue along my path. In the end the choice is yours to do what you want with it but good luck :wink:

Alex oliver is a great artist and a great teacher. He helped me developing my skills in sculpting and helping me to understand sculpting process. He also helps me actually in my personal way to become a professional in 3d character modeler. :+1:

Wow – thank you all so much for your replies.

Definitely going ahead with it now :) The first thing Alex said to me was the importance of starting from something simple like a sphere or a plane -- I have been playing around today trying to grasp the planes of head. I had no idea how much of crutch working from a base mesh was (in a bad way) at least during the learning procces. This is what I have got so far. Considering this my level pre Alex's class I guess :)

Yes, Alex’s Class is really wonderful. I personally learned a lot from the master…I’d say it’s the best class I’ve ever enrolled! You won’t regret a cent you spent on this online class as each session is so invaluable… :slight_smile:
