Anyone know how to script Photoshop Elements to massbatch convert files to greyscale?

I know this is a bit Off topic but it really isn’t. Apparently all of the Alphas in the Downloadable Library, in the download center are all in color format… So i was wondering if there is a way to mass batch convert to grey scale, and save all of the alphas in a given directory? Maybe a script or macro or something?

And if not Photoshop Elements 7 then perhaps GIMP? Or how about Even Zbrush 4?

Thank you for any advice!

ZBrush will load RGB files into the Alpha palette but I guess that you want to do this so that they will load from Lightbox?

This is a zscript that will do what you want but there are some things to be aware of. It loads the alphas into ZBrush and then saves them back to the same folder as PSD files. If the originals were PSDs then these will be overwritten. Also, ZBrush does not compress the files it exports so the files will take up quite a bit more space.

Unzip the file to you ZScripts folder (it is NOT a plugin!). Then press the ZScript>Load button and select the RGBtoGrayScale.zsc. The button will appear at the bottom of the UI - press ‘H’ on the keyboard to get it to appear or drag on the handle.

Press the button and you will be asked to select an alpha. You can Shift+select to select more than one. Don’t select too many as they will all be loaded in ZBrush!

ok ty very much!

OK i found a better work around.

you use Infranview ( a freeware program )

Infranview website

batch convert the alpha PSD files to TIFF greyscale. Then open Photoshop Elements and multiple process those TIFF files to PSD.

Now the Alphas show up in lightbox and now go to the alpha panel when I shift Double click them in the lightbox.

I am going to refer to the Original Karate Kid Movie, use my best Pat Morita Impression, and say " Wax on! Wax OFF! "

ok I will stop channeling the 80’s :o

you can mass batch convert much faster this way.
