I haven’t tried it yet but you can extract the area you want cut out and use it as an insert negative mesh. It’s demonstrated in Making Time for Art 4. You probably want to work on a clone while testing this.

I suspect you would convert your original mesh to a Dynamesh; Use the MeshInsertDot Brush go to the Brush Modifiers menu and select the extracted mesh, hold ALT and add the extracted mesh as a negative mesh, then add thicknes to the extracted piece to penetrate your original mesh, followed by Ctrl Click Drag to clear the masks and another Ctrl Click Drag to remesh.

Again I haven’t tried this yet but it is what I have gleened from the documentation, the few videos and Beta Tester Thread.

Thank You, Langley!

I will try do it. :+1:

I was also thinking back in the days before Z4R2  you could just extract the masked area of the model and it will create the holes for you. You can experiment with E Smt and S Smt as well as thickness. I usually keep them at 0 and then clear the mask which comes along for the ride, store a morph target on the extrated piece, and use the move tranpose to pull the extraction then hit make difference mesh in the morph target menu. It will create a new tool you can use.

Extract tool made cavity inside model… this is also interesting… but I need simple holes…

Now I will test your method, mentioned b4)

Is there a tutorial for DynaMesh?

I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for but, the whats new document for ZB4R2 has a good description on how to use DynaMesh.

You could always check the Documentation folder in your install directory for a .pdf of goodness.

I know there’s a new way to cut into models in R2, not sure if you have to make cutters or not in order to do it. I’m not very adept with ZBrush yet and I’m still waiting for my email, so I can’t be much more help unfortunately. I have found something that explains it a bit though. Though I think this talks more about making details than cutting chunks out. I think I’ve seen stuff where they just make a shape and cut it out… If that was true, might be able to make a Shadow Box with the areas you want to cut out and make it long enough to cut through and use that, but as I said, the Insert Bursh is the only thing I can find on the subject right now and I have a feeling that might not be the same thing.

Closest I’ve found is Ryan Kingslien explaining what it is and how it works. Kind of tells you how to use it, but it’s not really and in depth tutorial.

MrZmey: Sorry I was not very clear, you can create a polymesh plane subdivide it to around 1 million polys and draw a mask of the shape you want to keep then extract that. You will get something more like what you are looking for.

Here is an example image; I apologize for butchering your design:
