Any way to snap curves to mesh without being view-dependant?

For an example of this, if you draw a curve of insert mesh objects and then move the curve around, they will snap to the mesh right up until you move them to the highest point of the mesh and then the curve will be stuck on that plane - the highest point of the object that is closest to the camera. Is there any way to just have the curve stay stuck on the object? I suppose I could always drag a new curve out based on the design and have it snap immediately… but I am lazy and so if I make some small mistake and want to correct it, it’s easier to not have to move the camera to some place where I can grab the curve and let it use the snapping. Basically, it saves me having to shift the camera. If not whatever, I’ll deal with it.
