Any way to maintain creased esges with zbrush to maya workflow ?

Hi !

I can’t find any way to get creased mesh from zbrush 2018 to maya 2018
any chance ?

fbx isn’t saving creases
ma export exports empty scene
goz isn’t working with maya 2018

in other words amazing ))) it’s like a puzzle

goZ works with Maya 2018. Maintains the creases created in Zbrush too.

I cant find a way to make goz work with maya 2018 , any step by step manual ?
I tried some things from docs but goz shelf is not appearing …

You can export a MA file using SubTool Master>Export. Set the file type in the pop-up dialog.

FBX does export creases but Maya ignores them. I’ll look into that.

For GoZ to Maya 2018, I’ll try and put some help info together later.

How to correctly install GoZ with maya 2018 will be amazing , thank you !

  1. Close Maya 2018 if it is running.

  2. Open ZBrush 2018.

  3. In the Preferences>GoZ sub-palette click “Force reinstall” and choose Maya. This should install some files at least.

  4. Now check the following files. The locations may vary for your system.

  5. The GoZ_Config.txt at this location: C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya\GoZ_Config.txt

This file should have the path to Maya like this:
PATH = “C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/bin/maya.exe”

Check that path is correct for your system.

  1. The GoZ_InstallList.txt file at this location: C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya\GoZ_InstallList.txt

This should also have the path to Maya (my version has a blank line first):

C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/bin/maya.exe

  1. Check the GoZScript.mel file exists here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\scripts\startup\GoZScript.mel
If it doesn’t you can copy from the C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya folder.

  2. Check the userSetup.mel file exists here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\scripts\userSetup.mel
If it doesn’t you can copy from the C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya folder.
The file should contain the line:

eval(“source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZScript.mel””);

Check that path is correct for your system.

  1. Check the gozMaya.mll file exists here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\bin\plug-ins\gozMaya.mll
If it doesn’t you can copy from the C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya folder.

  2. Check the shelf_GoZBrush.mel file exists here: C:\Users[your-name]\Documents\maya\2018\prefs\shelves\shelf_GoZBrush.mel
If it doesn’t you can copy from the C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Maya folder.

I think that’s everything. Hopefully that should do it!

Now it’s better , shelf exists but there is no icon in it, I tried everything but still can’t make it work ,

ok it’s not a problem since I can export through subtool master it maintains creases .
but please when making plugins can you make sure that there is no need to do 1000 things to make it just send the mesh from one place to another …
hope for maya 2019 that is coming soon new GoZ will be simplified and enhanced …

Thanks again !

The shelf icon should be this file & location:
C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZBrush.xpm

I appreciate your frustration. Installation should be easy but obviously it doesn’t work for everyone. I’ll let the GoZ developers know.

ok , let them know please that simpe GoZ is better than that one
I’m not only who have that issue with GoZ

Thank you !
