Answered: zbrush freezing (not responding) when starting up

sorry hope this is the right section for this.

Both my copies of zbrush 3.5r3 and 4 just freeze and are listed as ‘not responding’ when i try to open them. They were both working about a week ago before moving back home.

I had to pack up my comp and reassemble it here but everything seems to be fine. The only thing that’s happened since, is someone installed an antivirus program on my comp (which im srsly against but whatever). That and having to join a new network but i doubt that would affect anything (so im assuming it’s the anti virus).

Would really appreciate help on this as i’ve got work to do asap ^^

I suspect that something happened which messed up your installation of Microsoft Visual C++.

The first thing to recommend would be running the VC Redistributable installer found in your ZBrush 4\Troubleshoot Help folder.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you should uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables found in your Programs and Features section of the Windows Control Panel. Then restart your computer and run the vcredist installer again.

This will most likely resolve the issue.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling visual C++ 2008 - x86 and this didn’t change anything. Still have the same problem. I also tried turning off DEP as directed by the TroubleShootHelpFile.txt and that did not help either. This is disheartening as I have lost a day of work and I still don’t have a solution. Any other ideas I could try.

Have you tried simply uninstalling ZBrush, deleting its folder, then installing again? When you installed, were you logged into the computer as an admin? If not, you need to be for installation and activation. After activating you can switch to a regular user account.

It was running for about a month before it stopped working. Yes, today I deactivated the license and uninstalled/reinstalled then reactivated and it works fine. Of course I lost all of my preferences. I wanted to find a solution that didnt involve re-installing but there doesnt seem to be a solution or known cause.
